Did Judas have a spiritual role in Jesus' ministry?

No. Judas served only in an administrative role: he was the treasurer and held the bag. Although he was with them for three years and had a part in the ministry, Jesus said he was a devil or demon from the beginning, so he never had a spiritual part in Jesus' ministry.

Les explains that Judas had been with the group the whole three years and was even one of the officers; his office was treasurer, and he held the bag. So he truly had a part in the ministry, but not a spiritual part. Jesus Himself indicated in John that Judas was a devil or demon, not merely in the last few weeks but from the beginning. Judas completely fooled the other eleven men, yet he never fooled Jesus. David, by inspiration, prophesied Judas's betrayal and fall. Les stresses Judas was not created to be the betrayer and was not left without a choice; he had as much choice as the others. God in His foreknowledge knew what Judas would do when given the opportunity, so prophecy foretold it and had to happen. Judas still had full opportunity to accept. He later purchased a field with the reward of iniquity, and when he took the thirty pieces of silver, he returned them to the priest at the temple and threw them at their feet because of his own guilt, since the priest knew it was blood money.
