Why can God hide things and reveal them when He is ready?
God can hide and reveal because He is eternal and timeless, yet He is also the God of time. As the God of time, He conceals in time what He chooses and reveals it when He is ready. Scripture unfolds by progressive revelation, and the secret things belong to the Lord our God.
Les explains that God's name implies He is eternal and timeless, but He is also the God of time. Since He is the God of time, He can hide in time things He wants kept hidden and reveal them when He is ready. That is why Les maintains Scripture can only be understood through progressive revelation: God does not tell everything back in Genesis, but reveals things as time unfolds. Deuteronomy 29 states that the secret things belong unto the Lord our God, and Paul uses the word mystery, meaning a secret, throughout his letters.
