Why is God able to hide truths in time and reveal them later?

God is eternal and timeless, but He is also the God of time. Since He is the God of time, He can hide truths in time that He wants kept hidden and reveal them when He is ready. Scripture therefore unfolds through progressive revelation, with secret things belonging to the Lord.

Les explains that God is eternal and timeless, yet He is also the God of time. Because He is the God of time, He can hide in time things He wants hidden and reveal them when He is ready. This is why understanding Scripture requires a concept of progressive revelation: God does not tell us everything back in Genesis, but reveals things as time unfolds. Deuteronomy 29 states that the secret things belong unto the Lord our God. In Paul’s letters, the word used profusely is mystery, or secret, from the Greek mysterion.
