Why did God hide secrets until now?

God, being the eternal God, keeps certain things secret until He is ready to reveal them in His own time. Deuteronomy 29:29 teaches that secret things belong to the Lord, while revealed things belong to His people, who then become responsible to believe and obey what He discloses.

Les explains that God is the everlasting God, eternity to eternity, but He is also the God who can keep things secret until He sees fit to reveal them. He does not have to reveal them until He is ready to in His own time. The Hebrew term carries this idea. A student pointed out Deuteronomy 29:29, where Moses says, “The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us.” Moses was speaking directly to the children of Israel, so the “us” there is Israel, but Les notes it does not limit the principle to Israel. It is God dealing with any time in history: when He reveals something, the people to whom He reveals it become responsible to believe it and tie into it. The revealed things belong to them and their children forever, that they may do all the words of this law.
