How did God say He would chasten Israel when they committed iniquity?
God said He would chasten Israel with the rod of men, meaning He would use other nations. If they committed iniquity, He would spank them, bringing a conquering nation to put them in subservience when they became rebellious and steeped in unbelief or idolatry.
In 2 Samuel chapter 7, God speaks to David through the prophet Nathan. Les explains that although God mentions Solomon, the promise extends to the nation of Israel, the children of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. God declares that if they commit iniquity, He will chasten them with the rod of men—using other nations as His instrument. This chastening was God’s disciplinary method, a spanking with the rod of men, exactly as He said.
