Was David and Solomon's kingdom real or merely spiritual?
David and Solomon's kingdom was real, not an ethereal or spiritualized fog. It was a literal, political, earthly kingdom under a king, beginning with Israel and reaching a pinnacle of glory the world had not seen. Israel constantly remembered it, and the disciples later asked the Lord to restore that kingdom.
Les explains that David and Solomon's kingdom was not an ethereal, up-in-the-fog, spiritualized concept. It was for real—a political kingdom here on earth under the authority of a king. He points to Bathsheba seeing the glories of Solomon's kingdom and saying that what she had heard was not half of what she now saw. That glorious kingdom, following David, was what Israel constantly remembered. Its beginnings were with the nation of Israel under David and Solomon, and it reached a pinnacle of glory such as the world had never seen, then faded off the scene. Jesus later spoke of Himself as a greater than Solomon, and the disciples asked the Lord if He would restore again the Kingdom.
