Why was the nation of Israel not healed even when Jesus performed individual healings?
The nation of Israel was not healed because they would not believe who Jesus was. While individual healings occurred—the nobleman’s son and the impotent man—the nation itself was not ready for spiritual health, the King, or the Kingdom, so they remained in unbelief.
Les teaches that the impotent man, who had been in that condition 38 years, is a correlation to the testing of the nation of Israel. When Jesus asked him, “Wilt thou be made whole?” He was really asking the nation whether it was ready for spiritual health, the King, and the Kingdom. They were not ready. The nobleman’s son was healed, and the impotent man would be healed, but the nation was not, because they would not believe who He was. Instead, the Jews were so religious and mindful of the Law that they were in an uproar because Jesus healed on the Sabbath and told the man to pick up his bed and walk. Les says they were so religious they were blind to common sense, preferring the man remain infirm rather than seem to break the Sabbath. This illustrates what religion does, in contrast to Pauline Christianity, which has set people free and put us under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
