Les Feldick Bible Study

Why could Jesus heal a Gentile but not pour out grace to them?

Jesus could heal a Gentile if He wanted, but He was under the sovereign agreement with Israel and Abraham. That covenant required Israel to first hear the offer of the King and Kingdom; only after their rejection would God turn to the Gentile world with grace.

Les explains that when the Gentile woman asked for healing, Jesus said He could not take the children’s bread and cast it to the dogs. She agreed but noted that dogs eat the crumbs from the Master’s table. Jesus commended her great faith and healed her daughter. Les teaches this shows He could heal a Gentile if He wanted, but He was operating under the sovereign agreement with Israel and Abraham. The covenant promises meant grace to Gentiles could not be poured out until Israel had every opportunity to hear the offer of the King and the Kingdom. When they rejected it, God turned to the Gentile world.
