If Christ were the King of the Church, what would believers be instead of joint heirs?
Were Christ the King of the Church, believers would not be joint heirs with Christ; they would be His subjects, merely subjects under the King. But Scripture places them in the Body of Christ as members, a far closer relationship than subjects of a King.
Les explains that Christ is the theme of everything Paul writes, and Paul refers to Him as the King, eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God. But Les warns that as members of the Body of Christ, believers should never refer to Christ as their King. He is not the King of the Church; Paul never calls Him that. He is the Head of the Body, our Savior and Lord. If He were the King of the Church, believers would not be joint heirs with Christ but would be His subjects, merely subjects under the King, as the whole world will one day be. Instead, believers are members of the Body, a far closer relationship than being subjects of a King.
