What event is described by the child being caught up to God in Revelation 12?

Revelation 12's man child is the Christ, the Son, who is caught up unto God and to His throne. This event depicts His ascension in Acts chapter 1, after being brought forth through Israel, and points forward to His future rule over all nations at His return.

Les explains that the woman is the nation of Israel, and she brought forth the man child, the Christ. The dragon's attempt to devour the child is seen in Herod's decree to kill all boy babies under age two in order to stop God's plan of redemption. The child being caught up unto God refers to Christ's ascension in Acts chapter 1 and to His throne. Les notes this same Christ will rule all nations at His return and setting up His kingdom. Then verse 6 shifts to the woman, a cross section of Jews in Matthew 24, fleeing into the wilderness where God prepares a place and feeds the remnant 1,260 days, three and a half years, paralleling the Exodus.

Revelation 12:5

And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.
