What is the abomination of desolation in the tribulation?

In the tribulation, at the midpoint of the seven-year covenant, the Antichrist brings the abomination of desolation by ending Israel’s sacrifice and oblation, commanding all temple worship to cease, and defiling the rebuilt temple with a hog sacrificed on its altar, leaving it desolate.

Les explains that the seven-year treaty begins the prophetic clock, and at its midpoint the Antichrist, the one coming from the revived Roman Empire, causes the sacrifice and oblation to stop. Since sacrifices can only be offered at the temple, Israel must have a rebuilt temple. This man will command that all sacrificial worship and all temple worship come to an end, and then he will cause an abomination—the overspreading of abominations—making the temple desolate. Les personally thinks Antiochus Epiphanes, the Syrian dictator, was a type of the Antichrist because he defiled the temple by sacrificing a hog or sow on the altar, and the swine’s blood was the abomination; he believes the Antichrist will do much the same. He will perform that abomination of desolation by sacrificing an old hog on the rebuilt temple altar. Daniel says everything determined will be poured out on the desolate, or better, the desolator, the Antichrist. Jesus refers to this in Matthew 24, speaking strictly to Jews: in the midpoint of the Tribulation this man will come into Jerusalem and into the temple and defile it.
