Why did the caller from Iowa say he never got much out of his Bible?
The caller said he never got much out of his Bible because he had never seen that what was written and spoken to the Jew is primarily for the Jew, while what was written and spoken to the Gentiles is primarily for the Gentiles. That missing distinction, he thought, explained his lack of profit from Scripture.
During a study of Matthew 23, Les explained that Christ's earthly ministry was entirely under the law and directed to the Jew, with no church language. He gave examples: lepers were told to show themselves to the priests, the rich young ruler was told to keep the commandments, and the twelve apostles were still meeting at the temple in early Acts. Les then shared that a gentleman from Iowa had called that morning and said he never got much out of his Bible. The man concluded it was because he had never seen that what was written and spoken to the Jew is primarily for the Jew, and what was written and spoken to the Gentiles is primarily for the Gentiles. Les used this to reinforce the need to keep Jew and Gentile distinct in Scripture.
