How will Jesus come to possess the kingdoms of the world?
Jesus will possess the kingdoms of the world not by bowing to Satan, but by utterly defeating him. Though Satan claimed the kingdoms were his to offer, the King will have them one day under totally different circumstances, after refusing Satan's temptation and commanding him to leave.
In the context, Scripture says the world lies in the lap of the wicked one, so these kingdoms are Satan's for now. But Satan did not realize the King is going to have them one day anyway, only under totally different circumstances—not by bowing down to Satan, but by utterly defeating him. The temptation was valid in that Satan could offer the kingdoms, but Jesus answered, "Get thee hence, Satan," and quoted worship the Lord thy God and Him only shalt thou serve. Les teaches this also shows believers should resist the devil, and he will flee.
