What message did Jesus preach when he started his ministry?

Scripture records that from that time Jesus began to preach and say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” This was the same message John the Baptist began. He proclaimed it because He was the King, ready to set up the kingdom in fulfillment of the Old Testament covenants.

Les explains that Matthew 4:17 marks the start of Jesus’ public preaching: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” This was the same message John the Baptist had begun. When John slipped off the scene and ended up in prison, Jesus picked up that identical message. He could preach it because He was the King, ready to set up the kingdom in fulfillment of the Old Testament covenants.
