What did the 1960s Jesus people not know about Jesus?
The 1960s Jesus people knew nothing of Christ's resurrection power or saving power. They focused only on His good earthly life, making much ado about Jesus, but such belief in His goodness does not save. Salvation requires knowing the resurrected Christ who died for sin, not merely acknowledging that Jesus did good.
Les explains that many who came out of the 1960s Jesus people made a big ado about Jesus, but they knew nothing of His resurrection power and nothing of His saving power. They were constantly referring only to His good earthly life. Les stresses that no one is saved by simply believing that Jesus did good; that is not salvation. In resurrection power, after He suffered the humiliation of His humanity and took upon that humanity the sins of the world, He becomes again the glorified Lord of glory, and as such is where we know Him—the resurrected Christ, the One who died for our sin. This is important, and many are missing it.
