Who brought Israel into the Promised Land after the wilderness?
Joshua brought Israel into the Promised Land after their wilderness experience. They had come out under Moses as a nation, and forty years later, after the wilderness, Joshua took them into the land. Afterward judges ruled them for four hundred and some years, until they asked for a king.
Les explains that God's promise to Abraham included making him a nation, giving that nation a geographical area of land, and eventually God Himself setting up government, because people in a land need government or there is anarchy. The Israelites became a nation in Egypt, in slavery, as God told Jacob: 'Fear not to go down into Egypt, for there I will make of thee a great nation.' They came out under Moses as a nation. Then, forty years later after their wilderness experience, Joshua took them into the Promised Land. After that, judges ruled for four hundred and some years; then they asked for a king, Saul, who failed, and David was next.
