How did paganism, mythologies, and idolatrous religions start?

Paganism, mythologies, and idolatrous religions began at the Tower of Babel. In the plains of Shinar, in Mesopotamia’s Euphrates River Valley, under Nimrod, Satan instituted all pagan and mythological religions. From there, every idolatrous religion had its beginning, and by Abraham’s time the known world was steeped in idolatry and mythology.

Les teaches that in the roughly 400-year interval between Noah and Abraham, the Tower of Babel arose in the middle. The whole human race, still of one language and one blood, gathered in the plains of Shinar in Mesopotamia’s Euphrates River Valley to build the Tower. There, under Nimrod, Satan—the god of this world—instituted all pagan and mythological religions. Les stresses that every pagan or idolatrous religion had its beginnings at the Tower of Babel. About two hundred years later, by Abraham’s time around 2000 B.C., the whole then-known world was steeped in idolatry or mythology, including the Venuses and Aphrodites. Out of that race saturated in idolatry and paganism, God found one man who still had a spark of faith or the ability to believe.
