Why didn't Jesus use His deity to benefit Himself while He was on earth?

He never ceased being God, but He kept His deity and humanity separate, refusing to let His divine power overtake His human nature even in circumstances where it would have benefited Him. He chose to act as an ordinary man, not lording His deity over others, though He remained fully God.

Les explains that Jesus never stopped being God. He was just as much God in the womb as after birth and throughout His earthly experience. His deity was under control. As a child playing with other children, He did not exert His deity or lord it over them; He acted like an ordinary child. That continued in His earthly ministry: He never let His deity overtake His humanity under circumstances that would have benefited Him, but kept the two separate. When He was deity, He was deity; when He was man, He was man. He remained the alpha and omega, the beginning and the end, the eternal God.
