Did the boy Jesus use His divine power while He was growing up?
No. Though He never ceased being God, as a child He did not exert His deity or lord over other children. His divine nature remained under control, and He acted like an ordinary child. His deity and humanity were kept distinct, not using divine power for personal benefit.
Les explains that Jesus never stopped being God—He was just as much God in the womb as after birth and throughout His earthly experience. However, His deity was under control. When the baby Jesus played with the kids on the block, He did not exert His deity or lord it over them. Because He was God even in a child’s body, He was still able to control the whole situation, yet He acted like an ordinary child. Les says this carried on in His earthly ministry: He never let His deity overtake His humanity under circumstances that would have benefited Him, but kept them separate. When He was deity, He was deity; when He was man, He was man. He was Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, and never stopped being the eternal God.
