Are there degrees of punishment in the eternal judgment of unbelievers?
Yes. There are degrees of punishment at the Great White Throne judgment for unbelievers. A person who lived a good life will not suffer as much as a vicious criminal. Capernaum will face greater judgment than Sodom and Gomorrah because it witnessed Christ's miracles and did not repent.
Les teaches that after the thousand years, everyone is brought to answer for what they have done in the flesh, and the Great White Throne is for unbelievers. Believers already had their point judged, or rewards given out, shortly after the Rapture. In his classes the question arises whether there will be degrees of punishment, and he says absolutely there will be. He illustrates this by saying an innocent person who lived a good life will not suffer as much as a vicious criminal. He points to Jesus' earthly ministry in Galilee, especially Capernaum, where Jesus said it would be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the judgment day than for Capernaum, because if Sodom and Gomorrah had seen the miracles Capernaum saw, they would have repented in sackcloth and ashes.
