Why will Capernaum suffer more than Sodom and Gomorrah?

Capernaum will suffer more because it rejected Jesus’ ministry and miracles, while Sodom and Gomorrah never had that revelation. Jesus said Sodom would have repented in sackcloth and ashes had it witnessed His works, but Capernaum did not, so its judgment will be more tolerable for Sodom than for Capernaum.

Les explains that in the resurrection of the unjust, people stand before Christ as judge rather than Savior, and He shows them their record. There are degrees of punishment. Jesus made this plain to the citizens of Capernaum, saying it would be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah than for them. Had Sodom and Gomorrah had His ministry, they would have repented in sackcloth and ashes, but Capernaum did not. Because its citizens rejected all His ministry and miracles, they will suffer more in eternal doom than even the horrible people of Sodom and Gomorrah.
