Can the UN or any human organization meet the needs of people who have nothing?
No, the UN or any human organization cannot meet the needs of people who have nothing. They can never begin to touch the needs of these masses who have absolutely nothing of this world's goods. The only hope for such people is that the Lord would come, because they will never get out of it any other way.
Les explains that even with the efforts of the UN or anybody else, they can never begin to touch the needs of the masses who have absolutely nothing of this world's goods. He and Iris witnessed abject poverty in Haiti, where there was no hope of ever coming out of it. The Haitian Christians told him their only hope was that the Lord would come, because they would never get out of it any other way. He also saw film clips of tremendous need in Russia, the Arab world, and the third world, and said, 'If only the Lord would come.' He contrasts this with America, where people have it so good they don't hanker for the Lord's return as Paul did.
