What did God do to transfer the land to Abraham in Genesis 15?
God appeared to Abraham and personally went through the rites of transferring the title deed of the land to him. After doing so, the Lord made a covenant with Abraham that same day, giving the land from the river of Egypt to the great river Euphrates to his offspring.
In Genesis 15, Les explains that God came down and appeared to Abraham, as He did so often in the Old Testament, and literally went through the rites of transferring title deed to Abraham. After that, verse 18 says that in the same day He transferred the title deed of the land, the Lord made a covenant with Abraham, saying, “unto thy seed... I have given this land from the river of Egypt... to the great river Euphrates.” Les notes the river of Egypt may not mean the Nile, because another river existed a little east of the Nile, but it was in that region. The promised area runs through present-day Iraq down to the Persian Gulf. Les says this whole territory will be Israel’s homeland when the Kingdom is set up, because she has never had it yet; David and Solomon received only part, not nearly all. The coming day will see Israel’s land cover the whole Middle East, including south across to the tip of the Red Sea and over to the river of Egypt, by virtue of the tribes listed.
