Les Feldick Bible Study

How often did the year of Jubilee occur in Israel?

The year of Jubilee was prescribed to occur every 50 years in Israel. Every 50th year was called the year of Jubilee, a time of new beginnings when debts were cancelled, property reverted to original owners, and prisoners were released. Yet Israel never practiced it.

Les explains that a Jubilee was 50 years, and every 50th year was called the year of Jubilee. According to God's law when He first began dealing with the nation of Israel, the year of Jubilee was the year of new beginnings. In that year all debts were cancelled, all property reverted back to the original owner, and many prisoners would be released. However, Les notes that as far as he knows, Israel never practiced the year of Jubilee.
