Will Christians just sit on clouds and play harps in heaven?
No. Believers will not sit idle on clouds strumming harps. God will give them tremendous responsibility and activity in His kingdom, and they will reign with Christ. That active involvement is what they will enjoy most—otherwise it would not be heaven.
Les explains that most people like to be active and that even a two-week vacation leaves them ready to get back to work. He says this desire for activity carries over into the kingdom, emphasizing that believers are not going to sit someplace on a cloud and strum a harp with nothing to do. Instead, God is going to give them a tremendous amount of responsibility and activity, and that is what they would enjoy most—otherwise it would not be heaven. He illustrates with the choice between being involved in something exciting versus sitting on the sidelines as a spectator, noting that people would rather be involved. Les connects this to the kingdom, where rewards for laboring in this life will be compensated with activity and responsibility when God sets up His kingdom on the earth. He then reads Revelation 20:4, where thrones are given and the word judgment means rule, and the martyrs lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
