What happens when religion and politics become intertwined?
When religion and politics become intertwined, they also entangle with economics, forming the world's system Scripture calls Babylon, which means confusion. This union of the world's religions, politics, and economics produces mayhem, as seen in conflicts where religion is the crux but becomes political and economic.
Les explains that Babylon in Revelation is comprised of the world's religions, the world's politics, and the world's economics. Those three areas of activity make up the whole social fabric of the world, and they are all intertwined. He points to the mayhem in what was called former Yugoslavia, where the crux of the problem was religion. But religion gets entwined with politics, and when religion and politics are together, they get entwined with economics, and that is the world's system. Because the world is getting so small and events become worldwide news so fast, the Bible can rightfully call that whole system one word, Babylon. The other word for Babylon, or Babel, is confusion.
