What is the purpose of incense in the tabernacle or in worship?

Incense in the tabernacle and worship served to produce a sweet aroma, symbolizing an aura of worship, holiness, and righteousness. In Revelation, the smoke of incense offered with the prayers of all saints ascended before God, showing that the prayers of the saints are the sweetest incense to Him.

Les explains that the purpose of incense is to give a sweet aroma, an aura of worship, holiness, and righteousness. In the tabernacle, incense rose as a pleasing fragrance. In Revelation 8, an angel stood at the golden altar before the throne with a golden censer. Much incense was given to him to offer with the prayers of all saints. The smoke of the incense, along with the prayers, ascended up before God out of the angel's hand. Les teaches that for God, the sweetest incense that could ever come up to His nostrils is the prayers of the saints. This scene occurs at the midpoint of the tribulation in the throne room of heaven. Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and cast it into the earth, beginning the trumpet judgments.
