Why is unbelief the worst sin?

Unbelief is the worst sin because it is the opposite of faith. Faith in God's Word pleases Him and produces obedience, making a person what God wants. Unbelief refuses to believe and trust His Word, frustrating God, especially after He has patiently poured out love; it leaves one facing His wrath.

Les teaches that unbelief is the worst sin possible because it is the exact opposite of faith. When a person has faith in God's Word, that faith pleases God and produces obedience, making them what God wants them to be. But when the human race cannot believe Him or trust His Word, it is frustrating to God. This is especially serious because God has so patiently poured out His love toward the human race, yet they continue to react in unbelief. As a result, the time comes when His love and grace are withdrawn and His wrath is poured out, as in Psalm 2:5, where He speaks to the world in wrath and vexes or torments them righteously and justly.
