Were Abraham's ancestors idolaters?

Yes. Joshua 24:2 records that Abraham's forefathers, including Terah, Abraham's father, and Nahor, lived beyond the river and served other gods. Scripture therefore identifies them as idolaters, and God called Abraham out from that idolatrous civilization to begin the covenant line.

Les teaches from Joshua 24:2 that Israel's forefathers beyond the river, including Terah, Abraham's father, and Nahor, served other gods and were all idolaters. Out of that idolatrous civilization and race of humanity, God called out one man, Abraham, and that began the nation of Israel, commonly called the Jew. Les also explains that a Jew is first and foremost a Jew because he comes from the promised covenant line of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Joshua 24:2

And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood in old time, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor: and they served other gods.
