Was Abraham called by God out of an idolatrous civilization?

Yes. Scripture shows Abraham was called out of idolatry. Joshua 24:2 says Terah, Abraham's father, and the forefathers served other gods and were idolaters. Out of that idolatrous civilization, God took one man, Abraham, to begin the nation of Israel.

Les teaches that God called out one man, Abraham, out of idolatry. In Joshua 24:2, Joshua tells Israel that their forefathers, including Terah, Abraham's father, lived on the other side of the river and served other gods—they were all idolaters. From that idolatrous civilization and race of humanity, God took Abraham. This marked the beginning of the nation of Israel, commonly called the Jew. The context later notes that a Jew is first and foremost identified by blood through the promised covenant line of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, coming from the 12 tribes.

Joshua 24:2

And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood in old time, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor: and they served other gods.
