How did pagan priests get women to serve as temple prostitutes?

Pagan priests conscripted young women from across the countryside, bringing them into the temples and forcing them into prostitution under the guise of religion. Their temples, such as Diana's in Acts, functioned as glorified houses of prostitution, making gross immorality part and parcel of pagan worship.

Les explains that pagan worship, especially in Paul's New Testament era, included gross immorality as part and parcel of their religion. Almost every pagan temple, such as the temple to Diana mentioned in Acts, was nothing more than a glorified house of prostitution in the name of religion. The pagan priests would conscript young ladies from across the countryside to come in, and those women were forced into prostitution, but it was done in the name of religion.
