What did pagan priests do with the meat from sacrifices in their temples?

When pagans brought animals to be sacrificed in a pagan temple, the priests kept a certain portion of that meat for themselves, much like Israel did. They then gave the remaining part of the carcass back to the individual, and it was his to do with as he felt.

Les explains that when pagans took their animals to be sacrificed in a pagan temple, the priests of that pagan temple would keep a certain portion of that meat for themselves, much like Israel did. Then they would give the remaining part of the carcass back to the individual, and it was his to do as he felt. This practice connects to Paul's teaching about believers attending wedding feasts where meat had been sacrificed to idols. Paul said believers are free to eat such meat because idolatrous gods cannot harm them, but if eating causes a young, immature Christian to stumble, then they should refrain from eating.
