What happened to the Roman Empire before its current revival?

The ancient Roman Empire, the fourth dreadful and terrible empire, died and went off the scene almost 2,000 years ago. It was later ravaged by World War II, leaving great European cities as heaps of rubble and destroying their industry, before its current revival as Western Europe.

Les explains that Daniel saw the residue of the ancient Babylonian, Median, Persian, Greek, and Roman empires coming back together in the revival of that fourth dreadful and terrible empire, which was Roman. Revelation 13:3 describes one of its heads as wounded to death, with the deadly wound healed, and the world wondering after this beast, this empire. Les brings this to the present time, noting Western Europe is coming together more and more as the United States of Europe, perhaps at ten or twelve, maybe fourteen or fifteen, but it will drop back to ten. Since this is a revival of an empire that existed almost 2,000 years ago, it was dead and seemingly off the scene, yet it is coming back full force and the world is amazed. Les also notes that fifty years ago, World War II ravaged Europe: great cities were heaps of rubble and all their industry was destroyed, yet now they have recovered.
