What did Jesus offer to Israel during His earthly ministry?
During His earthly ministry, Jesus offered Israel Himself as their King and the kingdom, in fulfillment of the Old Testament covenants, including the Abrahamic covenant. It was a valid offer: Israel had the opportunity to accept Him as King and receive the kingdom. According to prophecy, however, it could not happen then because Christ had to die.
Les explains that Jesus was addressing the nation of Israel and offering the King and the kingdom. If Israel would receive the King, they would receive the kingdom. This offer was made in fulfillment of the Old Testament covenants, including the Abrahamic covenant, and was a valid offer. Even though prophecy required Christ to die, Israel still had the opportunity to accept Him as King. Because Israel did not accept the kingdom, Elijah must still come; Les believes one of the two witnesses in Revelation 11 will quite likely be the Old Testament Elijah.
