What happened when Ezekiel took the two sticks in Ezekiel 37?

When Ezekiel took two sticks, one representing Judah and the southern kingdom, and the other representing Ephraim and the northern kingdom, he joined them together in his hand, and they miraculously became one stick. This illustrated God's promise to reunite the divided nation of Israel into one.

Les explains that Ezekiel took two separate sticks, one for Judah (the southern kingdom of Judah and Benjamin) and one for Ephraim (the northern kingdom, also called Israel or the ten tribes). In verse 17, God told him to join them one to another into one stick, and they became one in his hand. Les calls this a miracle, similar to when Moses cast down his rod in Exodus. God was showing Ezekiel and us today a tremendous lesson: the two divided kingdoms would become one. When the people asked what it meant, Ezekiel was to say, "Thus saith the Lord God." This illustrates God's intention to reunite His covenant people.

Ezekiel 37:17

And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand.
