Why do lost people fall apart, scream, and wail at funerals?
Lost people fall apart, scream, and wail at funerals because they have no hope and no concept of what lies beyond death. Paul contrasts them with believers, telling the Thessalonians not to sorrow as others who have no hope. The pagan's grief is hopeless because they do not have this revealed hope.
Les teaches that in I Thessalonians 4:13 Paul says he does not want believers ignorant concerning those who are asleep, or who have died physical death. Paul says believers should not sorrow as others who have no hope. Les explains that a pagan or lost person has no concept of what is out there, so when they lose a loved one they fall apart and scream. Les asks if you have ever heard the pagans at a funeral: they weep and they wail.
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
