How does Jesus endorse Daniel's abomination-of-desolation prophecy in Matthew 24?
In Matthew 24:15, Jesus directly cites the abomination of desolation as spoken by Daniel the prophet, telling Israel that when they see it standing in the holy place, they should recognize Daniel's prophecy is being fulfilled. This citation stamps His approval on Daniel's writing and confirms its future fulfillment.
Les explains that in Matthew 24 Jesus puts His stamp of approval on what Daniel wrote. Jesus is speaking to the Twelve and to the nation of Israel, and in verse 15 He says, “When you therefore shall see the abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel the prophet standing in the holy place.” This points back to Daniel’s prophecy that the prince from the revived Roman empire signs a seven-year treaty with Israel, then in the middle of that treaty turns on Israel and sets himself up as God in the rebuilt temple in Jerusalem. Daniel said he would come in, and Jesus endorses that prophecy by citing it.
When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)
