What will the Antichrist do in the temple halfway through the seven years?
Halfway through the seven-year treaty, the prince from the revived Roman empire will turn on Israel and set himself up in the rebuilt Jerusalem temple as God, demanding worship as God. Daniel calls this the abomination of desolation, and Jesus confirms it will stand in the holy place.
Les explains that Daniel 9 describes a prince coming out of the revived Roman empire who signs a seven-year treaty with the nation of Israel. That treaty runs its course according to prophecy, but in the middle of it he turns on Israel. Daniel says he will set himself up as God to be worshipped as God in the very temple in Jerusalem, which by that time will be rebuilt. Jesus puts His stamp of approval on Daniel’s words in Matthew 24:15, telling the nation of Israel that when they see the abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel the prophet standing in the holy place, they should understand what Daniel foretold. The context also indicates this man will worship Satan rather than the God of Abraham.
