Who is the king in Daniel 11:36?

The king in Daniel 11:36 is the end-time world ruler, identified as the Antichrist, who will do according to his own will. He is described as a vile person who rises through flattery and political maneuvering, makes a treaty with Israel, then turns on them.

Les explains that Daniel 11:36 introduces the end-time world ruler, the Antichrist, who comes on the scene after leaping 2,500 years of history from Daniel's day. This king is the vile person of verse 21 who gains power not by popular vote but through subterfuge, intrigue, and political maneuvering. He comes in peaceably, obtains the kingdom by flattery, saying what people want to hear. He signs a treaty with Israel promising peace and prosperity, but then turns on them with violent pressure. Verse 36 says this king will do according to his will. This figure foreshadows the Antichrist and is the same individual described throughout the passage.

Daniel 11:36

And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.
