Who is Michael in Daniel 12:1?

In Daniel 12:1, Michael is identified as the great prince who stands for the children of thy people—that is, for Israel. The verse places his standing up at the time of trouble, a reference to the tribulation, when Israel's people will be delivered, every one written in the book.

Les explains that Daniel 12:1 identifies Michael as the great prince who stands for the children of Daniel's people, which he understands as Israel. Les says Michael's standing up coincides with a time of trouble such as never was, a reference to the tribulation. At that time, the people—again the nation of Israel—will be delivered, every one found written in the book. Les also notes this passage lays out the Old Testament resurrection clearly and shows unbelievers are not resurrected at the same time as believers.

Daniel 12:1

And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
