What happened to Alexander the Great's empire after his death?

After Alexander the Great died, probably of alcoholism at age thirty-three, the vast empire he had rapidly established was immediately divided among four of his generals. It became a quadrangle—an empire split into four kingdoms. The great horn being broken meant he was off the scene, and four stood up in place of it.

Les explains that the great horn between the goat’s eyes is the first king, Alexander the Great. He notes that Alexander’s campaign was unique because of his swiftness and speed, and that the scriptural imagery of the goat running pictures two empires, not mere animals. When that horn was broken, Alexander was off the scene: he died, probably of alcoholism, at the young age of thirty-three. Les teaches that the great empire Alexander set up so quickly was immediately divided between four of his generals, forming a quadrangle—an empire divided between four. Thus four stood up for it, four kingdoms, the division of the great empire, with four divisions standing up out of it.
