Why did Nebuchadnezzar create his great image?

Nebuchadnezzar created his great image because he thought he could bring all the worship of the world together and centralize it in himself. His aim was to unify the world's worship under his own image, and this pattern prefigures the Antichrist and false prophet, who will likewise amalgamate the world's religions into one great image.

Nebuchadnezzar thought, as Les teaches, “I'll just bring all the worship of the world and centralize it in myself by building this great image.” He wanted to consolidate all worship into one centralized system focused on himself. Les explains that the Antichrist and the false prophet will do basically the same thing during the tribulation: they will consort together to amalgamate all the religions of the world and make people worship one great image. The false religious leader will cause the earth's inhabitants to worship the Antichrist, a counterfeit of the Son, and will command them to make an image to the beast.
