Who was Daniel while he was in Babylon?

While in Babylon, Daniel was a young Jewish captive trained by the Babylonians for service in the king's kingdom. He was brought to a place of preeminence by interpreting Nebuchadnezzar's dream, which the king's magicians could not restore. He wrote the book of Daniel shortly after Nebuchadnezzar besieged Jerusalem and took the Jews captive.

Les explains that Daniel was a young Jew taken captive to Babylon after Nebuchadnezzar besieged Jerusalem and Judea. Daniel was trained by the Babylonians for service in the king's kingdom and was brought to preeminence by interpreting Nebuchadnezzar's dream, which the king's magicians could not bring back. Les notes that scoffers ridicule the book of Daniel, claiming an imposter wrote it long after the events, but Daniel wrote before they happened.
