Why did God promise to deliver Israel from their enemies?

God promised to deliver Israel from their enemies so the nation could serve the God of Abraham without fear, in holiness and righteousness all their days. This deliverance belonged to the covenant promises made with Abraham and the physical, political aspect of the kingdom, granting peace and safety to the Jewish people.

Les teaches that verse 74 says God would grant the nation of Israel deliverance out of the hand of their enemies—mortal, physical, next-door enemies—so they might serve the God of Abraham without fear, in holiness and righteousness all the days of their life. Les explains that this is the physical, literal, political aspect of the kingdom, granting peace and safety to the Jewish people, and it rests on the covenant promises made with Abraham, which were Jew only. Yet Les also shows that the spiritual side must come, because Jesus told Nicodemus that except a man be born again, or experience salvation, he cannot enter the kingdom. The two must come together.

Luke 1:74

That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,

Luke 1:75

In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
