When did reconciliation become possible according to Paul's 2 Corinthians 5?
Reconciliation became possible when Christ died, that is, through the work of the cross. Paul brings this out in 2 Corinthians chapter 5, urging, “Be ye reconciled to God,” and describing the ministry of reconciliation: the lost world has already been reconciled, and God will reckon believers as reconciled when they believe.
Les explains that the 490-year prophecy given to Daniel included making reconciliation for iniquity, and that this was accomplished in the work of the cross. When Christ died, reconciliation was made possible, as Paul brings out in 2 Corinthians chapter 5: “be ye reconciled to God.” Les notes that believers now have the ministry of reconciliation and can tell a lost world they have already been reconciled. It has all been accomplished; if they believe, God will reckon them as reconciled. The cross is also where sin was defeated and Satan’s power was broken for the believer.
