What was the old family altar that Les described?
The old family altar was a family practice where the father read a few verses from the Bible and the family joined in a circle of prayer. It usually happened before the children got on the early school bus, though such family worship is rarely heard of today.
Les explains that when he was a kid, families used to have what they called the old family altar. The old dad would read a few verses out of the Bible, and they would have a circle of prayer. That was usually before the children were getting on the early school bus. But you do not hear that anymore. Les points out that God has not changed and His promises are the same. He connects this to the need for believers to spend time in prayer, saying God expects every believer to spend 10, 15, 20, or 30 minutes a day on their knees. It takes habit. Some people already do this, spending 30 minutes every morning in the throne room, and Les imagines what would happen if every believer in America, young and old, families, would do that.
