When did the Roman Empire disappear according to the Daniel 2 lesson?
In the Daniel 2 lesson, the Roman Empire passed off the scene in about the 300's, between 300 and 400 A.D. It just disappeared, marking the rise and fall of the Roman Empire after the earlier empires, with its divided legs representing East and West.
Les explains that the political flow moves from absolute power to a consensus of two, then four, then many, and identifies Rome as the next great empire. Even though Rome is normally thought of as governed by the Caesars, Les says it was in reality a republic depending on its senate and representatives, the seeds of democracy. The legs of the Roman Empire were East and West: the East was capitalized in Constantinople, while the West stayed at Rome. Reading Daniel 2:41-43, the kingdom is divided East and West, with the strength of iron mixed with clay, partly strong and partly broken, and no real strength. Les then states that the Roman Empire passed off the scene in about the 300's, between 300 and 400 A.D., and just disappeared.
