How did the image in Nebuchadnezzar's dream affect Nebuchadnezzar?

The great image in Nebuchadnezzar's dream shook him to his feet, leaving him frightened and terrified. Its brightness was excellent, yet its form was terrible, and the vision was something beyond human understanding, striking him with overwhelming fear and dread.

Les explains that Daniel, in Daniel chapter 2, begins to interpret this dream and recover it, telling Nebuchadnezzar he saw a great image whose brightness was excellent. The context shows that even in his dream, the vision of this great, humongous image shook Nebuchadnezzar to his feet; it was terrible and frightening, something beyond human understanding. Its form was terrible, and the language was frightening and terrifying. Daniel then describes the head of fine gold, chest and arms of silver, belly of brass, legs of iron, and feet a mixture of iron and clay. Les notes that he used to try to draw the image but found his artistry pitiful, and after someone made one for him it didn't feel right, so he now puts the words in sequence and lets listeners draw their own picture, suggesting it might be a big robot like out of Star Wars or a comic strip.

Daniel 2:31

Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible.
