Where were Daniel and Revelation written relative to Israel?
Daniel and Revelation were both written from outside of Israel. The two books are deeply intertwined, so studying one requires turning back to the other. Their shared origin outside Israel distinguishes them and underscores their connected prophetic message.
Les explains that Daniel and Revelation are so intertwined that whenever you study Daniel you have to go back to Revelation, and when you study Revelation you have to go back to Daniel. He notes that both were written from outside of Israel. He then ties in an analogy between the twelve apostles and Paul. Jesus chose the twelve within the borders of Israel, mostly up along Galilee. But Paul was never called within Israel's borders; he was called on Gentile ground outside Damascus. This sets him totally apart from the twelve. Paul emphasizes in Galatians chapter 1 and 2 that he had nothing to do with the twelve in Jerusalem. The Lord called him from Gentile ground and sent him to the Gentiles. Les then returns to Revelation chapter 13, beginning at verse 11, and warns against lifting verses out of context.
