What did Daniel ask King Nebuchadnezzar for after Arioch told him about the decree?
After Arioch made the decree known to Daniel, Daniel went in and desired of the king that he would give him time, and that he would show the king the interpretation. So Daniel asked King Nebuchadnezzar for a delay, promising to reveal the dream's meaning.
Les explains that Daniel, though still a young man without gray hairs or age-based respect, spoke up with counsel and wisdom to Arioch, the captain of the king's guard, who had gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon. Daniel asked why the king's decree was so hasty, and Arioch made the matter known to him. Then Daniel went in and desired of the king that he would give him time, and that he would show the king the interpretation. Les emphasizes that this was not human happenstance but the almighty sovereign God at work. After Daniel's request, the secret was revealed to him in a night vision, and God revealed the dream that Nebuchadnezzar had forgotten. Daniel was brought before the king, who asked if he could make known the dream and its interpretation. Daniel answered that the secret could not be shown by the wise men, astrologers, magicians, or soothsayers, but there is a God. Les reminds his classes that beginning at the tower of Babel, the whole human race has been saturated with idolatry of one sort or another.
